FAQ'S

WILL THE CHARGER PLUG FIT MY ELECTRIC CAR?

Yes most electric vehicles in the UK are moving to a Type 2 charger. There are only a few models left that use a type 1 (Mitsubishi Outlander and the old Nissan Leaf). The aim is that type 2 becomes the universal fit for all electric vehicles. CEI can confirm what plug type your car is when placing your order.

WHAT DOES TETHERED OR UNTETHERED MEAN?

Tethered means that the charger has a cable permanently connected ready to plug in to your car. This is the most popular option for home. Untethered means that you need to provide the cable the connects your electric vehicle to the charger.

HOW DO I CLAIM THE OLEV GRANT?

If you’d like to take advantage of the grant, CEI can place the grant application for you, giving you the instant £500 OFF without having to pay anything upfront and wait for the refund. Put simply we deduct £500 from your invoice and claim it back from the Government.

HOW MUCH DOES AND EV CHARGER COST?

Like most technology these days they vary on ability and features. The most basic fast charger is around £300-400, however only smart chargers qualify for the grant. These start at around £500 and go up to approx £1500.  Installation costs start at £185, however this is for a standard install. Some houses will require more work done to enable the installation of an electric vehicle charge point.

CAN MY CHARGER BE INSTALLED OUTSIDE?

Yes, most electric vehicle chargers can be installed outside in a suitable location. However some chargers (lacking in advanced safety devices) require different installation methods that add additional installation costs.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO CHARGE MY CAR?

All electric vehicles have different size batteries and have different maximum charge rates. A Tesla Model 3 base model has a 50kWh battery and will take just under 7 hours to fully charge on a 7.2kWh fast charger. Currently, a 7.2kWh charger is the fastest home charger for most homes. These chargers are approximately 3 times faster than the small plug in leads offered with the car and offer a greater level of safety.
